George Koulianos, DVM
Dr. Koulianos graduated with honors from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991 and jumped right into private practice by heading up the small animal medicine department in a multi-doctor mixed specialty practice in his native Florida.
Five years later, Dr. Koulianos branched out on his own and purchased a new full-service small animal medical and surgical hospital. With management help from his wife, Erine, Dr. Koulianos was able to grow the small practice by implementing integrative and preventive strategies to his special areas of interest—internal medicine, dermatology, and soft tissue surgery.
Professionally, Dr. Koulianos is known throughout Tampa Bay through his regular television segments on Dog Lover’s TV and radio stations like JOY FM as well as lectures and seminars for local organizations.
After several years in private solo practice, Dr. Koulianos expanded his horizons, once again, by
becoming a consultant to and assisting in over ten local practices in counties throughout Tampa
Bay, including Animal and Bird Medical Center in 2008.
Upon joining Dr. Murphy at Animal and Bird, Dr. Koulianos’ part-time role quickly blossomed into a full-time position as part of the ABMC team. Dr. Koulianos is able to incorporate his years of experience in alternative, traditional, and integrative medicine, as well as nutritional approaches to disease prevention, management, and supportive care for every patient. His exposure to various practice philosophies and disciplines allows him to formulate individual patient care strategies specific to each animal’s needs and he believes very strongly in involving the pet family in the decision-making process.
Dr. Koulianos and his wife, Erine, have two sons. Together, their family recently completed a twenty-five-year-long project of initiating and overseeing the construction of the first and only authentic Byzantine-style basilica church in the United States.
Their extended pet family includes a border collie and two cockatiels.
